Hoosick Falls CSD Community Members:
Just ten days after the shooting in Buffalo, another senseless tragedy has taken place at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, where at least 19 children and two adults have lost their lives.
These events, taking place so soon after one another, are incomprehensible and impossible to explain to children. We recognize that some children react to tragedies such as these right away, while others may react much later. How these reactions take place can vary significantly from child to child. As we continue to process what took place, it is only natural for children, parents and guardians to worry about school safety.
While we have safety procedures in place, conduct practice drills throughout the school year and have both the tools and a plan ready if needed, we also must recognize that we must never become complacent when it comes to the safety of our students and staff. This serves as a good time to remind your children:
If you see or hear something that is concerning (in person, in writing or online), tell a trusted adult.
If you have questions or concerns about how to best support your child, please reach out to your child’s teacher, school counselor, or building principal. As you think about how to address this tragedy with your child, the following resources are available:
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the entire Uvalde community.
