Dear Hoosick Falls Families:

Although there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among our students and staff, Hoosick Falls CSD will be closing from Tuesday, March 17th through Wednesday, April 1st as a precautionary measure.  Due to the rapidly changing nature of COVID-19 cases and the information surrounding the spread of this illness, superintendents in the Questar III BOCES region of Rensselaer, Columbia and Greene counties collectively decided to cancel all classes during this time period. All athletic practices, extracurricular activities, and district events are canceled from Tuesday, March 17 through Sunday, March 29.

Classes for students will still be in session on Monday, March 16. Please ensure your child(ren) will be in school on Monday as teachers will be providing them with instructional materials and resources for the following two weeks. It also allows the students to clean out their lockers and bring home belongings, including band instruments.

Our school district is committed to providing educational resources for our students during this time, but we also realize that you cannot replicate the school day. Teachers will provide self or parent-guided materials for learning at home. We will also seek to maintain our student, teacher and family relationships as much as possible through digital means. We encourage you to maintain a schedule and routine to provide as much normalcy as possible for your child.
If you do not have access to the Internet, Spectrum is offering free internet access to Capital Region households with K-12 students during this unprecedented event. This is a 60-day offer only available to households that aren’t already Spectrum customers. This will include free WiFi access. To obtain this service, you can contact Spectrum at 1-855-243-8892.

We understand that closing school for an extended time places a heavy burden on the families in our district. With this in mind, we have arranged to continue our breakfast and lunch program, with a special emphasis on students that receive free and reduced lunch.  We have a coordinated plan to distribute packaged meals to families on three dates: Wednesday, March 18 (three meals), Monday, March 23 (three meals) and Thursday, March 26 (two meals). Please note: ANY STUDENT in our district in need of a meal will receive a meal.

Please continue to check our district website, Twitter and Facebook for updates as this is a very fluid situation. We are continuing to follow the guidance of the governor’s office, the New York State Department of Health, and the U.S. Department of Education regarding instructional time, academic resources, and test scheduling.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work together through this unprecedented situation. Looking ahead, we anticipate that there will be many questions. Please continue to follow the CDC’s recommendations to stay healthy: thorough hand washing, social distancing, and avoiding large groups as well as those who are ill.

Closing school from March 17 to April 1st was a District decision coordinated with Questar III BOCES, and by order of the governor. We must still adhere to Department of Health directives.

The District will cancel all in-person classes immediately if a positive test result for COVID-19 is received before Tuesday, March 17. All social media will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
