Dear Hoosick Falls Families:

While there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Rensselaer County, there are over 950 cases in New York State as of Monday, March 16.  On Monday, Governor Cuomo CLOSED all schools in New York State from March 17 through April 1 as a precautionary measureThe rapidly escalating situation will be reevaluated next week to determine whether the closure will be extended.  At this time, classes are scheduled to resume in two weeks.

Current Closure Schedule

All athletic practices, extracurricular activities, and district events are canceled until April 1. At this time, classes are rescheduled to resume on April 2nd.

Distance Learning

The school district is committed to providing educational resources for our students during this time, but also realize you cannot replicate the school day. Teachers have provided self-guided or parent-guided materials for learning at home. We will also seek to maintain our student, teacher and family relationships as much as possible through digital means. We encourage you to maintain a schedule and routine to provide as much normalcy as possible for your child.

Emergency Internet Access

If you do not have access to the Internet, Spectrum is offering free internet access to Capital Region households with K-12 students during this unprecedented event. This is a 60-day offer only available to households that aren’t already Spectrum customers. This will include free WiFi access. To obtain this service, you can contact Spectrum at 1-855-243-8892.

Food Delivery Information

We understand that closing schools for a week places a heavy burden on the families in our district. With this in mind, we have arranged to continue our breakfast and lunch program, with a special emphasis on students that receive free and reduced lunch.  We have a coordinated plan to distribute packaged meals to families on four dates:

  • Wednesday, March 18 (three meals)
  • Monday, March 23 (three meals)
  • Thursday, March 26 (two meals)
  • Monday, March 30 (two meals)

All attempts will be made to deliver meals from 9:00am to 11:00am each day.  As this changes all bus runs across the District, we ask that you watch for the bus between these hours on the first day.  The bus should arrive at approximately the same time each day for delivery after that.

Please note: ANY STUDENT in our district in need of a meal will receive a meal.

If the bus did not stop at your home, you may go to the Hoosick Falls Armory to come pick up between 11:00am to 3:00pm.

Future Updates

Please continue to check our district website, Twitter and Facebook for updates as the crisis changes on an almost hourly basis. We are continuing to follow the guidance of the Governor’s office, New York State Department of Health, and the U.S. Department of Education regarding instructional time, academic resources, and test scheduling.

Thank you for your continued patience and support as we work together through this unprecedented situation. Looking ahead, we anticipate that there will be many questions. Please continue to follow the CDC’s recommendations to stay healthy:  thorough handwashing, social distancing, and avoiding large groups as well as those who are ill.

All social media will be updated with new information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Patrick Dailey

Superintendent of Schools
