Hoosick Falls Girls Wrestling Team State Qualifiers
Genevieve Schuttig moves on to NYS Wrestling Tournament
The Hoosick Falls girls wrestling team recently competed at the Section II NYS Qualifier at Cambridge on Sunday, January 15. Genevieve Schuttig, an 8th grader, was able to reach the championship finals in her weight class, eventually placing 2nd. To qualify for the NYS tournament you must place 1st or 2nd in your weight class at the qualifier.
As only a first year wrestler, Genevieve or “Evie” placed 1st in the Ravena and Niskayuna tournament during the season and compiled an 18-6 overall record. Evie also beat an opponent from Salem/Cambridge who placed 4th in the NYS tournament last season.
Evie will move to compete in the NYSPHSAA Dual Meet Girls Wrestling Championships on Friday, January 26. The schedule for the tournament is included below. More detailed information will be provided once the wrestlers, teams, brackets and times have been solidified.
Additionally, Jenna Backes (4th place) and Taylor Myers (5th place) also earned a spot on the podium at the qualifier, however they did not meet the criteria of placing 1st or 2nd to move on to NYS Qualifiers. The team placed 7th overall out of 57 schools and 3rd for small schools.
This is the first year for Girls Wrestling at Hoosick Fall CSD and we couldn’t be happier for the success the team has had. Congratulations to the coaches, wrestlers, Jenna, Taylor and Evie.
