Hoosick Falls High School Receives National Banner Unified Champion School Recognition!

On Wednesday, February 12th, Hoosick Falls High School held an assembly to officially receive recognition as a National Banner Unified Champion School from the Special Olympics New York. The school was notified about this accomplishment, along with 12 other NY schools, in September of 2024 for their Unified Programming.

The President and CEO of Special Olympics New York, Stacey Hengsterman, presented the award on February 12th, along with her son, Alex. Hengsterman thanked HFCS student Katy Howard, who is involved in unified programming, for emailing her to invite her to present this award. Nathan Johnson, executive director for Unified Sports with Special Olympics New York spoke with the students about what inclusion means.

A few of our students also spoke in front of their peers, about what this programming has meant to them. You could hear a pin drop in the gymnasium as the students got up one by one and shared what being involved in unified programming has meant to them and their time in school. The HFCSD could not be more proud to receive this recognition, and of our students, coaches, and staff, who have made this possible. Hoosick Falls will #ChooseToInclude! #InclusionRevolution #PlayUnified
