Fourth graders and high school woodworking students came together earlier this month to enjoy some hands-on learning for a special “Toolbox Project”, courtesy of member organizations of the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition (NCTWC). This event, which sought to raise awareness with students about future careers in the building trades, was facilitated by employees from Curtis Lumber, Questar III BOCES and HFCSD faculty and students enrolled in HFHS's woodworking class. Fourth-grade students learned how to use a tape measure and hammer to build toolboxes, while discussing careers in the trades industry.
This event was organized in partnership with the district, Questar III BOCES, the Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition (NCTWC), and Curtis Lumber. Questar III collaborates with NCTWC to connect schools with local trades-related businesses to create collaborative learning opportunities that bridge the gap between classroom learning and the world of work. These partnerships help to educate students and highlight the vast opportunities around the Capital Region.
Special thanks to Questar III BOCES, Northeast Construction Trades Workforce Coalition, and Curtis Lumber Company for making this fun-filled event possible for students. Our students not only built toolboxes but also worked on developing practical skills, community connections, and awareness of the trades industry.
