4th Grader, Eamon Keegan, took 2nd place at the New York State Scholastic Chess Championships!! This was a 2-day, 6-game tournament, open to students in kindergarten through 5th grade. Eamon went undefeated in his section (K-5, Under 600) and placed 2nd (based on tiebreakers) out of 277 participants! Eamon taught himself chess during the pandemic when he was just 5 years old, via a mobile app, after seeing his father playing chess. He participates in Mr. Jon Millman’s Chess Club at school and works with a chess coach, Mr. Andrew Palmer, based out of Bennington, VT. Eamon has played in smaller tournaments in the past, but this was his first State Championship. Congratulations, Eamon!
