OUR STUDENTS NEED YOUR VOTE!!! 13 of our middle school students are involved in a video contest- "What's So Cool About Manufacturing®"! This is a first-of-its-kind contest in NYS led by the Center for Economic Growth that encourages middle school students to engage with local manufacturers and produce real-world, project-based videos that spotlight careers and pathways in manufacturing while highlighting "What's So Cool About Manufacturing®". There are 8 Capital Region school districts participating in this contest. HFCS was paired with the local division of Saint-Gobain. Students visited Saint-Gobain twice over the last few months with their "Project Coaches", Mr. Bundrick, Mr. Dailey, and Ms. Livingstone. Students used a GoPro to take video footage on the production floor, learned all about what the Hoosick Falls division produces, interviewed employees about their experiences, and asked for their opinions on what opportunities are available in manufacturing. The students then condensed hours of footage and information into a 2 1/2-minute video. The students will attend an awards event at Proctors Theater in Schenectady later this month. A local panel will judge their video, and the students may win an award for creativity, technical expertise, and/or content. They may also win a Viewer's Choice Award. This is where we need your help! Beginning at 12 a.m. on 3/5, please follow the link below to vote for our students' video. The voting window will close at 12 p.m. on 3/7. THANK YOU!! https://www.whatssocool.org/contests/capital-region-ny/?fbclid=IwY2xjawI0RkJleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHUKpOfbITJaiozXWMt47wcwNGy7cjC-NgflB9phnEmAzFZ4pJYfmMkt0zg_aem_FUjECJAAx5rKc3SDJUCJEg

Our elementary school has started our Parents as Reading Partners (P.A.R.P.) program for the month of March! Last Friday, Fourth Grade Teacher, Mrs. Brownell, led the students in a Yoga Kick-Off Event! There are 4 weeks of fun reading activities for the children to take part in. We are asking students and parents/guardians to read together and record the minutes on the attached slip. (Reading times vary by grade level.) The program begins today, 3/3, and will end on 3/31. Each student that meets their grade level reading goal for the week will earn a weekly prize, and their name will be entered into our P.A.R.P. weekly prize raffle of 1 winner per grade. At the end of our program, every student who meets their goal for all 4 weeks will receive a book and reading certificate and will be invited to a dance party with a DJ! P.A.R.P. is a wonderful opportunity for parents/guardians and children to share in the joy of reading. Please be sure to look at the attached calendar for the upcoming daily P.A.R.P. events and dress-up days! Dressing up is encouraged, but not necessary!! We have also partnered with the Ronald McDonald House Charities to encourage students and families to read for a great cause! Students will be able to collect fundraising donations during the month to support the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Throughout the month, your child will learn all about the Ronald McDonald House and why it is a wonderful organization to support. Participation in P.A.R.P. and Ronald McDonald House Charities are separate events. (See flyers for full details!) You may choose to do one or both. However, if you choose to do both, please count your reading each evening for both events! If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Reading Department at (518) 686-9492. Happy Reading, The Elementary Reading Department

2/25/25: Due to a traffic accident in North Hoosick, buses in that area may be delayed or rerouted this morning. There is no change in the start of the school day. The pickup time of your children may be slightly different or on a different bus in North Hoosick. This may impact both the middle/high school and elementary runs.

Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day and we are so grateful for our SRO, Deputy Garhartt! He goes above and beyond to get to know our students and staff, and his sidekick, K9 Eddie, brings smiles wherever he goes. Recently, Deputy and School Social Worker, Mrs. Shea, visited with the 4th grade students. Deputy read the book, "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" and spoke with the students about being kind and what it means to be a "bucket filler". He then took some time to let the students ask him questions so they could get to know him better. Thank you for all you do for our school, Deputy Garhartt!

Recently, 3rd and 4th-grade students attended a "Birds of Prey" assembly presented by the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York. Presenters, Trish Marki and Delaney Dyer shared their knowledge with the students and students got to see five raptors, right in the high school auditorium. Students had up-close experiences with an Eastern Screech Owl, an Aplomado Falcon, a Barred Owl, a Turkey Vulture, and a Eurasian Eagle Owl, which they saw take flight! The assembly was sponsored by the Holiday Match Grant through the Stewart's Foundation, which the Wildlife Institute applied for and was awarded. Students in Mrs. Brownell's 4th-grade class made thank you cards which will be mailed to the Stewart's Foundation for this opportunity. For more information about the Wildlife Institute of Eastern New York, visit their website: https://www.silentwingsraptors.org/
